About Lotto HotPicks
Launched in July 2002, Lotto HotPicks gives you a different way to try and win prizes based on the winning Lotto numbers. You don’t play for a rolling multimillion-pound jackpot. Instead, you decide how many numbers you want to play (between one and five), and try to match them all.
The winning numbers for Lotto HotPicks are the same that are used for Lotto, so there are two rounds on every draw night. There are six winning numbers from 1 to 59 in Round 1 (the Bonus Ball is not relevant to HotPicks), followed by six more numbers from 1 to 59 in Round 2. Just like with UK Lotto, you have until 7:30pm on Wednesday and Saturday nights to purchase your tickets.
Do I have to play Lotto if I want to play HotPicks?
The two games are entirely separate, even though they use the same winning numbers. You can play Hotpicks without playing Lotto, or vice versa, or you can take part in both games if you wish.
How to Play Lotto HotPicks in 3 Easy Steps
Step 1:
Decide how many numbers to pick
There are five different versions of Lotto HotPicks. If you opt for the ‘Pick 1’ game, you only need to select one number, if you play ‘Pick 2’, you have to choose two numbers, and so on.
The most numbers you can choose is five. The cost is the same regardless of how many numbers you pick.
Step 2:
Choose which draws to enter
Once you have decided how many numbers to pick, make your selections on your play slip. Alternatively, ask for a Lucky Dip to get a random pick.
Decide whether to enter your numbers into the next Wednesday draw, Saturday draw, or both. You can also play up to four weeks in advance.
Step 3:
Pay for your tickets
Pay for your Lotto HotPicks, at a cost of £1 per play (this enters you into both draw rounds). Remember to keep your entry safe if you play in a store. If you play online, there will be a secure digital record of your numbers.
All you need to do after you buy your ticket is wait for the draw to happen and see which winning numbers are selected.
Lotto HotPicks Prizes
For each version of Lotto HotPicks – Pick 1, Pick 2, Pick 3, Pick 4 and Pick 5 – there is one fixed prize. For example, if you select one number and match it, you receive £3. If you play Pick 5, you’ll win £175,000 if all five of your numbers appear in the same round of a Lotto draw (you cannot combine matches across the two draw rounds).
Remember that you need to match all of the numbers you pick – this is the key difference between HotPicks and Lotto. For example, if you play Pick 4 and match three numbers, you do not win a prize.

Draws take place twice a week. There is one on Wednesday at 8:00pm, and one on Saturday at 8:00pm. The cut-off time for ticket sales is 7:30pm on draw days.
